This year’s group of nominees for the Jan Machulski Awards consists of the authors of 32 films. The names of the winners will be announced on November 26 during the final gala of the CINEMAFORUM festival.
The Jan Machulski Awards are an unprecedented project in the field of short cinema in Poland, aimed at rewarding the most talented young filmmakers representing various filmmaking professions, as well as directing attention to less appreciated film types, such as documentary and animation. This is the 19th time that jurors evaluating films at 7 festivals of independent and short cinema from different parts of Poland have named filmmakers who, in their opinion, deserved this award in 8 categories.
The most nominations in the 19th edition of the project were gathered by Natasha Parzymies’ film “Moje Stare”. This sensitively told social drama is up for awards in the categories of Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress and Best Cinematography. Bartlomiej Blaszczynski’s “Funeralia” and Klaudia Folga’s “Pieśń Humbaków” each earned three nominations. Patryk Krawczyk’s “Akwizytorzy” Zofia Kowalewska’s “Kot,” Emi Buchwald’s “Piękna Łąka Kwietna” Robert Kwilman’s “Alkibiades” and Marcin Lesicz’s “Koniki na Biegunach” also have more than one chance at the award.
A total of 32 titles were included in the pool of nominated films.
