>>> FILM SCREENINGS >>>PURE PICTURES

>>> THURSDAY, 9.11.2017, 17:00 – 18:40

This year, we have also planned a separate special section named “Pure Pictures”. It includes original and individual films in intriguing forms, narrated mainly by pictures and rarely, if at all, using dialogues. The films prove how much we can tell in a short film only with involving pictures and sounds, and how intriguing film universes we can create.

GOKURŌSAMA

Early in the morning in a Japanese shopping center, a shopkeeper gets stuck. In order to help her, her young employee decides to cross the shopping center with her.

HUNTING

As they set out on a hunting trip, Steph teaches Sarah basic gun safety. It’s her very first time...

THE FIRE CELEBRATION AT THE KURAMA

The Yuki-jinja Shrine is located in Kurama, Kyoto. Every year, a unique fire festival is held at the shrine. This film mixes documentary and fantasy to depict the people, deities, and spirits who create the festival together.

GARDEN PARTY

In a deserted rich house, a couple of amphibians explore their surroundings and follow their primal instincts.

COPYRETTE

A nude body of a young woman lies motionless on a kitchen floor. In a nearby forest, a man calls out for his dog. Their paths cross at a copy shop where it appears that the outwardly shy woman has a strange obsession with her body image.

SIROCCO

At the edge of the Sicilian coast, a family gathers to celebrate the birthday of an ancestral godfather. Unfortunately, the wind rises...

PRESTON

The murmurings of the audience grow stronger behind the door. It’s almost time. His suit is looking sharp. His fingers are warmed up. He is ready for the fight. Only perfection is tolerated here. However, there is more to him than meets the eye. Let the show begin!

AMATEURS

Three young boys are fixing antenna for their Ham Radio in an urban chawl. A man with his handheld radio listens to different frequencies wandering in different spaces. The International Space Station is transmitting space weather to all ham radio folks.

MR. NIGHT HAS A DAY OFF

Why is the night changing the day? Well, when you don't like something, you change it.

RAGNAROK

The storm is coming. The eagle is captured by the spirit of the doom. A bullet is fired to the eagle’s fatal battle.

THEY JUST COME AND GO

The film takes place at the famous beach in Split in the first moments of sunrise. The entire image seems a bit surreal. On the one hand, young people, sleep deprived and hungover, are preparing to leave so that they can go to bed, and on the other hand, there are old people whose day is just beginning. A combination of young and old in such a place, at such an unusual time of day in a way suggests thinking about the transience of life and awakens memories of past days of youth.

LATE SUMMER

“Late Summer” captures a centuries-old Beijing theatre in its incarnation as a modern-day transient space.
